Rossville

Greetings Soccer Families, 8-19-2008
Here's an update on Rossville Soccer:
VARSITY BOYS SOCCER TEAM: The first home game is at 4:30 Wed against Frankfort. Come support the team on the new high school field!
SUMMERS END is this Saturday, Aug 23. We have several activities going on!
*PARADE- The parade starts at 10 am at the school. Please be there by 9:45. We are in space #35. It is in the middle of the 2nd row north of the gym. Wear a RAYS t-shirt or other soccer jersey. The parade route ends at the park and you can meet your kids there. An adult will stay with the float until all children are claimed so don't panic if you get caught in traffic!
*BEAT THE KEEPER: Immediately following the parade until 11:30, we are sponsoring a "beat the keeper" game at the park. Players have the opportunity to score against the high school coaches and goalies. Prizes are awarded for goals made and according to the goal size. Cost is $1 per attempt or $2 for 3 attempts.
*RAYS BOOTH: Our booth # 107 is on the east front corner of the firehouse. Thank you to all of you who volunteered to man the booth!
We will be offering concessions and selling RAYS merchandise. New this year: embroidered polo shirts, drawstring bags, and sunglasses. We will also have t-shirts, car decals, and bracelets.
Late registrations for the fall league will be accepted, but this is the final deadline. Players are not guaranteed placement at this time as many of the teams are already formed.
Sponsors: We are still in need of a few sponsors. If you or your employer is interested, sponsorship forms will be available at the booth.
Cleat sale: New this year, we will be offering gently used cleats for $5.00 a pair. First come, first served! If you have a pair of gently used cleats that you would like to donate, please get them to Tom Holden at CVS or drop them by the booth on Saturday.
*HIGH SCHOOL GAMES: Come support the high school teams and see our new field and facilities! The girls play Saturday at 12 noon and the boys play at 2:30. The first 10 spectators at each game will receive a free pair of sunglasses! Games and prizes will be offered during half time of each game.
COOKS NIGHT OFF MEALS (catered by Shoups)
RAYS is sponsoring meals the 4 Wednesdays of September. Not only do we need your orders, but we will also need volunteer workers (servers) and cookie bakers. Full menus and further details will be sent with a separate mailing, but here is a preview:
September 3- Chicken and noodles/ September 10-Spaghetti with meat sauce/ September 17-Pulled pork BBQ sandwiches/ September 24-Chicken and noodles
REC LEAGUE
Coaches needed! We are still in need of one U6 and one U8 coach. Please contact Kirk Saylor at Kirk.Saylor@doodad.com if you are willing to coach one of these teams.
We know you are anxious to receive a call from your coach. Many of the teams have been rostered and coaches are in the process of attending coaches’ meetings and clinics for training. We hope to have all teams finalized by August 24 and everyone should be contacted by August 29. If you have not heard from someone by August 29, please contact Kirk Saylor. “THIS IS DEPENDANT ON GETTING 1 COACH EACH FOR THE U6 AND U8 TEAMS!”.
Picture day will be Saturday, September 6. We are pleased to announce that Mary Patchett Photography will be handling our pictures this year. Mary respectfully asks for cash payments, no checks.
REFS NEEDED: With the fall rec season around the corner, we are in need of referees. If you are interested, but have not been trained, Jeff Quinton is offering a free ref clinic at 7pm on Friday, August 22 at the town park. Please RSVP to Jeff at 379-3200 or by email at Quinton@ffni.com. Refereeing is a great way to be involved and earn a little spending money! Trained refs can indicate their interest to ref by contacting the Quintons (Jeff and Melanie) at 379-3200 or by email at Quinton@ffni.com
And lastly, we are thrilled to introduce you to some new volunteers. "Many hands make light work!"
Kim Lehnen is our new Registrar and is responsible for entering all the registrations in the database.
Kim Zink is our new Concessions Coordinator and is bringing great ideas and enthusiasm to the organization!
We have 4 league coordinators, who are organizing the teams and schedules and conducting the coaches’ meetings. They are: Phil Andrews U6, Stacy Darlin U8, John Spear U10, and Kim Zink U14
And Crystal Sanders is our Event Coordinator. Be nice to her when she calls looking for volunteers!
Thank you to these guys and to you all of you who have volunteered your time and talents throughout the years.
We are looking forward to a great season!
